Book "The Girls of Room 28" and more

The basic element of the Room 28 Educational Project, in addition to the exhibition of the same name, is my book The Girls of Room 28, first published in 2004 in German.

The most important document of the Room 28 Educational Project is the authentic diary of Helga Pollak, written 1943-1944 in Room 28, Girls' Home L410, Theresenstadt. It is the first book of the series Edition Room 28, published in 2014. Helga Pollak-Kinsky: Mein Theresienstädter Tagebuch 1943-1944 /My Terezín Diary 1943-1944.

The extraordinary account of Evelina Merová's life, published as the second book in the Edition Room 28 under the title: Lebenslauf auf einer Seite/Vita on one Page enriches the Room 28 Educational Project with a valuable testimony of a survivor. Unfortunately, it is out of print (July 2023). A new edition is planned, but due to lack of finances not possible at the moment.

The book and the exhibition complement each other. The exhibition was created to give more space to the original documents and testimonies and to give the survivors of Room 28 the opportunity to tell their story through the exhibition panels to young people. With great commitment, the survivors accompanied the exhibition for many years and took part in various events - readings, eyewitness talks (often as part of performances of the children's opera Brundibár) or commemorative events. Our project of remembrance is rooted in the survivors' wish to wrest the children of Terezín from oblivion and to create a memory for the people who lovingly cared for them in the Terezín ghetto.

Exhibition

The Room 28 Educational Project is planned to be the central realm of activities of the NPO Room 28. However: the association must be put in a position to take over the management and development of this educational project and everything that goes with it, especially the maintanance and development of the exhibition, communication with schools and with people active in the field of art and culture interested in our Offers.  

This means to establish an active team and secure financial support for the organization on a stable basis. So far all the work was done by me alone, including creating and writingh the connected websites. - This is why it is necessary that the process of transformation can be realized in 2023-2024.
